You can rave about eggnog all you like, but I’m not one to stray too far from the gin bottle. Especially at Christmas time! So I’ve pulled together a few fantastically festive recipes, to get the party started.
Cranberry & Thyme (or rosemary) with fresh whole cranberries
Pour 50ml cranberry juice and 50ml gin over ice in a tall glass. Top up with tonic water, then add a splash of lime juice. Garnish with a wedge of lime, a few fresh cranberries and a sprig of thyme.
The Sloe Royale
Nothing says Christmas quite like a sloe gin! For this festive number grab a champagne flute, pour in 15ml sloe gin and top with bubbly. Bob’s your uncle.
Apple & Clove G&T
Combine 50ml gin with 10ml apple juice in a highball glass and top up with tonic water to taste. For the garnish, make a clove-spiked lime wheel by piercing a whole lime at regular intervals and placing cloves in the holes.
Christmas Pudding Gin & Tonic
Apparently made by distilling whole Christmas puddings, Sacred’s Christmas Pudding Gin can simply be topped with your favourite tonic water. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a slice of orange for a very special Christmas G&T!
Christmas Gin Fizz
Last but definitely not least, if you have the time, this recipe from Nebojsa Kutlesic, head mixologist at Skylon would be my choice serving. First bring 500ml of Gomme to the boil, add 4 cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 star anise and 3 cardamom pods. Simmer for 2 minutes, remove from the heat and allow to cool. Next dip the rim of the glass in grenadine and then coat with caster sugar. Fill a shaker to halfway with ice cubes. Add 50ml gin, 15ml of infused gomme syrup, ½ a lemon juiced and 1 egg white. Shake hard for 30 seconds. Fine strain, top up with tonic and garnish with glacé cherries.
